HRT Free Ontario
To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
Whereas untreated menopause costs the Canadian economy an estimated $3.5 billion annually in lost productivity, increased healthcare utilization, and workforce absenteeism; and
Whereas menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), including transdermal estradiol and micronized progesterone, is a clinically proven treatment that reduces the severity of menopausal symptoms, lowers long-term disease risk, and improves quality of life; and
Whereas Ontario's Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) formulary currently covers only oral estrogen formulations, while clinically preferred transdermal and bioidentical options require Exceptional Access Program approval, creating unnecessary delays, denials, and administrative burden on patients and prescribing physicians; and
Whereas British Columbia and Manitoba already provide menopausal hormone therapy to residents at no cost, leaving Ontario women without equal access to standard-of-care treatment;
Therefore we the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:
Direct the Ministry of Health to add all clinically approved forms of menopausal hormone therapy, including transdermal estradiol and micronized progesterone, to the Ontario Drug Benefit formulary as a standard covered benefit.
